DISCUSSION/ACTION ON RESOLUTION NO. 896 SUPPORTING TEMPORARY PLACEMENT OF HURRICANE KATRINA EVACUEES IN INTERMEDIATE HOUSING

Hurricane Katrina’s devastation affected many people and several ended up in shelters.  The United States Government through FEMA and the State of Texas Office of Emergency Management has declared certain activities in support of the Katrina victims eligible for funding reimbursement at 100% of cost and directed local governments to proceed with these activities.  Resolution No. 896 supports the City of Sulphur Springs expending the necessary local resources to accomplish this program with full expectation that FEMA will reimburse each and every activity.  This resolution also states that funds will be expended from the City’s Special Revenue Fund.  This resolution states that the City Council declares a continued State of Local Emergency and directs City staff to accomplish this emergency program and provide reasonable support for it continued success as defined by local, state, and FEMA directives.  Councilman Powers moved to approve Resolution No. 896 as presented.  Councilman Crouch seconded and the vote was unanimous.
