SPECIAL MEETING OF THE

CITY COUNCIL

AUGUST 16, 2005

6:00 P.M.

Mayor Clay Walker called the special meeting of the Sulphur Springs City Council to order at 6:03 p.m.  The following council members and staff were present:

PLEDGE AND INVOCATION

Mayor Pro Tem Freddie Taylor led in the pledge of allegiance and Councilman Garry Jordan led the invocation. 

DISCUSSION ON PROPOSED FISCAL YEAR 2005-06 BUDGET

Finance Director Peter Karstens quickly reviewed the basics of the budget as presented at the August 9, 2005 special meeting.  Several questions were asked of the Department Heads concerning specific line items.

DISCUSSION/ACTION TO VOTE TO PROPOSE A TAX INCREASE AND SCHEDULE TWO (2) PUBLIC HEARINGS FOR THE PROPOSED TAX INCREASE

Financial Director Peter Karstens explained that two (2) public hearings had to be scheduled.  After due consideration Councilman Brown made a motion to hold the public hearings at noon on August 25^th and August 30^th.  Councilman Jordan seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous.

With no further business to attend to the meeting was adjourned by the Mayor Clay Walker at 7:58 p.m.
